ADM 242

Integrated Office Software

Course Description: A comprehensive examination of advanced Microsoft Office Professional 2000.

Units: 4

Prerequisites: Micro Applications I (Introductory Techniques) and II (Advanced Microsoft Office Professional 2000).

Hours of Instruction: Flexible hours depending on the individual student.

Method of Instruction: This class is an independent study lab. As such the student is expected to work on their own, progressing through the material at their own pace and seeking assistance from the instructor only when necessary. For the most part, students with the required prerequisites will find that their accumulated knowledge in similar computer applications will be more than adequate to speed them through the material, as previously learned concepts are reintroduced and integrated into four software applications.

Required Text and Materials:

1. Microsoft Office 97 – Introductory Concepts and Techniques, Shelly, Cashman, and Vermaat, Course Technology.

2. 4-7 blank high density (1.44 MB) disks.

Basis of Evaluation: 75% of the quarter grade will be based on the accurate completion of the application projects at the end of each lesson. 25% of the quarter grade will be based on machine tests given at the end of each major section.

TUTORIAL CENTER ASSIGNMENT:

Should student performance reflect any possible deficiencies, the instructor may refer the student to the tutorial center for review.  Work completed at the center may be used to raise the grade of one or more unsatisfactory assignments.  Any score below 70% will be considered unsatisfactory.

ASSIGNMENT NAMING CONVENTION

All In the Lab assignments are to be saved utilizing the following naming format.  The first letter of your first name, followed by the first letter of your last name, followed by the project number, followed by the lab assignment number.  Example:  If I were saving the third assignment in the second project I would save the file to my student disk as JD2-3.

All Cases and Places  assigned are to be saved utilizing the same format as above except CP will precede the problem number.  Example:  If I were saving the 2nd assignment of the 4th project, the file would be named JD4-CP2.

“In the Lab” assignments are due in all projects on student provided disks.  Late assignments will be assessed a 10% penalty for every week late. Cases and Places assignments are as indicated in the following class schedule.  These student disks become the property of the instructor and will not be returned to the students.
