Stephen P. Choi

Mr. Choi is Coordinator for the Criminal Justice & Legal Studies Program. He is a graduate of the San Joaquin Delta Police Academy, has a bachelor degree in psychology, and has a juris doctor from the Humphreys College Laurence Drivon School of Law.

Shannon Gonzales

Mrs. Gonzales is a Probation Supervisor for San Joaquin County Probation Department and has worked in probation for 17 years. She is a graduate of CSU Sacramento where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections. She earned her Master's Degree in Public Administration from National University.

Paul Skinner

Mr. Skinner has 33 years experience including serving for the Pleasant Hill Police Department, starting as a Cadet and ending as a Captain. Since retiring from the Department, he has served as a Senior Inspector in the Welfare Fraud Unit of the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and as an Instructor with the Contra Costa Junior College District. Mr. Skinner graduated from St. Mary’s College, majoring in Public Safety Management and attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, where he majored in Police Agency Management.

Douglas Ravaglioli

Mr. Ravaglioli started as a police officer for the Monterey Police Department in 1981. He retired as a Sergeant with the Turlock Police Department in 2011. He has a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Public Administration. Mr. Ravaglioli has instructed at Monterey Peninsula College, with the Ceres Unified School District and for Yosemite Community College District.

Pete Winston

Mr. Winston graduated from the University of the Pacific in 1976 and attended the Laurence Drivon School of Law at Humphreys College. He joined the Stockton Police Department in 1978 and retired after 30 years as a Sergeant. A graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Mr. Winston's law enforcement career included assignments in patrol, investigations and administration. He has been teaching Criminal Justice courses since 2007.

Kay Paden

Kay Paden graduated from UC Berkeley and Golden Gate University School of Law. She is a Deputy District Attorney concentrating in crimes against women and children. Ms. Paden is an Adjunct Professor at California State University Stanislaus in the Criminal Justice Department.

Rick Armendariz

Mr. Armendariz is a Lieutenant for the Modesto Police Department where he serves as a Watch Commander and Press Information Officer. He earned his Master's of Arts in Emergency Service Administration from CSU Long Beach and holds certificates from CA POST SLI and IACP Leadership in Police Organizations. He started as a Police Dispatcher in 1993 and has worked in patrol, investigations, Internal Affairs, and various other positions in law enforcement.

Jolene Gonzales

Ms. Gonzales is a Lieutenant for the Modesto Police Department where she serves as a Watch Commander. She earned her Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University. She is currently in CA POST Command College and is slated to attend the FBI National Academy in 2012. She started her career over 25 years ago and has worked in patrol, investigations, Internal Affairs, and training.

Ron Reid

Mr. Reid is a Lieutenant for the Turlock Police Department, responsible for Special Operations but is currently serving a dual role as the Interim City Manager for the City of Turlock. He earned his MastersDegree from CSU Long Beach in Emergency Service Administration, Bachelors Degree from CSU Stanislaus in Business Administration and is a graduate of the CA POST Command College. He has 24 years of experience as a police officer, both at Turlock and Modesto Police Departments and he has experience in Patrol Operations, Special Operations and Investigations.

Tom Morris

Mr. Morris is the retired Chief of Police for the Stockton Police Department, where he started his career as a police cadet in 1972. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Management from St. Mary's College and is a graduate of the CA POST SLI, CA POST Command College and the FBI National Academy. He worked various assignments such as, SWAT, traffic, patrol, and vice/criminal intelligence.

Jim West

Mr. West is the current Chief of Police for the Stockton Unified School District Police Department. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the State University of New York. He currently teaches high school and college classes for Humphreys College.

John Bell

Mr. Bell has the most varied work experience amongst all of the Criminal Justice instructors. He worked as a deputy sheriff, police corporal, district attorney investigator, and as a special agent for CA Department of Justice before retiring after 25+ years of service. He earned a Masters Degree from National University and currently teaches our high school classes for our ABLE Charter High School.

Jamie Clayton

Mrs. Clayton is a Captain for the Imperial County Sheriff's Department. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Administration of Justice and recently completed the National Jail Leadership Command Academy and CA POST Command College, class #49. She worked in the Criminal Justice field for over 25+ years and has held verious positions over her career.

Georgette Brown

Mrs. Brown is currently a police officer with the Stockton Police Department, where she started her career in 2004. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration with a minor in Business Administration from National University, Sacramento, CA in 2004. She also has earned her Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinatti, Cincinatti, OH in 2010.

Kimberly Crosby

Mrs. Crosby is a retired Probation Officer who worked for San Joaquin County for 19 years. During her career, she worked in all areas of Probation including, Juvenile Probation, Adult Probation, Juvenile Detention and Probation Administration. She has a Bachelors Degree from the University of San Francisco.

David Naumann

Mr. Naumann is a Probation Unit Supervisor in San Joaquin County. He received his Bachelors of Criminal Justice Degree from Louisiana State University. Mr Naumann currently is an instructor in weaponless defense, firearms, chemical agents and First Aid/CPR. He is also a background and internal affairs investigator and a field training officer.

He teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 5.1 - Gangs, Module A.1 - Personal Safety Precautions, Module P - Physical Conditioning, Module A - Searching, and Module B and C - Defensive Tactics.

La Tosha Walden

Ms. Walden has been in Law Enforcement for the past 14 years as a Correctional Officer and is currently a Probation Officer for San Joaquin County. She has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing and has extensive experience in the private sector.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 3.2 - Confidentiality and Release of Information, Module 4.1 - Evidence-Based Practices, Module 4.2 - Introduction to Assessment Tools, Module 4.3 - Interviewing, Module 4.4 - Disproportionate Minority Contact, Module 5.3 - Psychological Problems, and Module 5.5 - Crisis Intervention and Counseling.

Marilyn Martin

Mrs. Martin is a Deputy Chief Probation and has worked for the San Joaquin County Probation Department for over 20 years. During her career she has worked in Juvenile Detention, Juvenile Probation, Adult Probation and Probation Administration. She graduated from University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Black Studies/Sociology and has attended Command College for Probation Administrators.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 8.1 - Determinate Sentencing, Module 11.1 - Priority Setting for Probation Officer Functions, Module 8.4 - Dispositional Alternatives in Juvenile Cases, Module 8.5 - Juvenile Court Reports, Module 9.4 - Monitoring for Substance Use, and Module 9.5 - Factors in Making Referrals.

Ms. Gonzales is an attorney for the Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office and has been there for 5 years. Currently, she is assigned to the Juvenile Division. She is a graduate of CSU Chico where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration with an option in Criminal Justice. She earned her Juris Doctorate at University of the Pacific and the McGeorge School of Law.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 3.1 - Legal Foundations for Probation, Module 3.3 - Juvenile Justice System and Process, and Module 3.4 - Adult Criminal Justice System and Process.

Tamika Nelson

Ms. Nelson is a Probation Supervisor and has worked for San Joaquin County Probation Department for over 12 years and is the Defensive Tactic Instructor for the department. She has her Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Humphreys College, Laurence Drivon School of Law.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 5.2 - Family Violence and Module 5.6 - Sex Offender Legal Mandates and Community Management.

Kenn Chiong

Mr. Chiong is a Probation Officer III and has worked for the San Joaquin County Probation Department for over 11 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with an emphasis on Accounting from CSU Fresno and is the Defensive Tactics, Impact Weapons and Firearms instructor for his department.

He teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module P - Physical Conditioning and Modules B & C - Defensive Tactics.

Stephanie Watt

Mrs. Watt is a Probation Supervisor and has worked for San Joaquin County Probation Department for 14 years. Prior to working for probation, she worked for the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office as a Family Support Officer. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 5.4 - Substance Abuse, Module 9.1 - Conducting the Initial Meeting and Interview with a Probationer, Module 9.2 - Establishing Case Goals and Plans, and Module 9.3 - Case Plan and Supervision.

Vera Bonpua

Mrs. Bonpua is a Probation Officer III and has worked for the San Joaquin County Probation Department for 10 years. Prior to working for probation, she worked for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department as a Correctional Officer. She is a Firearms Instructor for her department and earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from CSU Fresno.

When a student has to miss any of the Probation Officer Core Course, she is the make-up instructor for any module the student misses.

Susan Guzman

Mrs. Guzman is the Camp Director for San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall and has worked for the San Joaquin County Probation Department for 15 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento.

She teaches the following in the Probation Officer Core Course: Module 8.2 - Dispositional Alternatives in Adult Cases, Module 8.3 - Adult Court Reports, and Module 8.6 - Presentations to the Court and Testifying.

January Siphan

Mr. Siphan is a deputy probation officer with Stanislaus County Probation. He has been with the department since 2001. He has been assigned to the Adult High-Risk Offender Unit since 2007 and specializes in gangs. Mr. Siphan teaches Officer Field Tactics and Building Entry Tactics for this department. Mr. Siphan also teaches Criminal Justice at the Institute of Technology in Modesto. Mr. Siphan received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from CSU Stanislaus.

Carla Contente

Ms. Carl Contente is the Deputy Chief Probation Officer over the Juvenile Detention Services Division for the San Joaquin County Probation Department. Ms. Contente's experience includes working as a Correctional Officer for 2 years and working in probation for the last 17 years. She is a graduate of CSU Stanislaus, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.

Stefanie Grijalva

Stefanie Grijalva has worked for the San Joaquin County Probation Department since 2003. She worked as a Juvenile Detention Officer, a Juvenile Detention Unit Supervisor and is currently the Juvenile Detention Training Officer. Ms. Grijalva is an instructor in Cell Extraction, Jireh, Aggression Replacement Training, as well as First Aid/CPR. Ms. Grijalva studied Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of the Pacific.
