Our Teacher Preparation Program is designed to prepare candidates for the challenges and opportunities of teaching at the elementary and middle school levels (K-8) of California’s highly diverse student population.
The program provides the high-quality training and experience necessary to qualify candidates for the California Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential (SB2042 Credential).
Integrated coursework and hands-on teaching experiences emphasize effective, result-oriented teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and the practical, real-world skills necessary to manage classrooms within differing organizational structures (e.g., combination classes and block classes).

Your future in teaching
Our graduates usually end up teaching at the elementary-school level, where the MSTC is the most beneficial and useful, though graduates may also go on to teach at the middle- and high-school levels, and in other settings, as well.
The Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom, such as the classrooms in most elementary schools, as well as in other grades as described here.
