Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Education program is designed for students who wish to pursue teaching or administrative opportunities in early childhood education. In this program, students gain an understanding of the needs and characteristics of young children; the ability to provide productive learning environments; an understanding of the importance of a child’s familial and community support system; the skills to design, implement, and evaluate curriculums for positive development; and the ability to successfully administrate and supervise early childhood education programs.
Degrees in Early Childhood Education qualify students to work in fields such as infant or preschool teaching, child and family advocacy, early intervention, research, or licensing. Students who complete a program in this department will qualify towards placement on the Child Development Permit Matrix issued by the California State Department of Education, Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Classes for the Early Childhood Education major are offered mostly late in the day or at night to accommodate the schedules of working students. Select day classes are also available. The major offers a master of arts, bachelor of arts and an associate in arts degree which meet state requirements.
Early Childhood Education Department faculty members are qualified individuals who are deeply dedicated to the field of child education, as well as to the success of their students. The faculty consists of a department chair, one full-time faculty member and a number of adjunct instructors who work as Early Childhood Education professionals.
