Teacher Perfomance Assessment (TPA)
A candidate must complete and pass the California Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) embedded within the Multiple Subject Credential Program to be recommended for a Teaching Credential to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
The California Teaching Performance Assessment incorporates four performance tasks that increase in complexity but not necessarily in difficulty. These tasks allow candidates to acquire and develop appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities as candidates take on the student teacher role and effectively manage and provide quality standards-based instruction to a diverse student population. The first task will be completed during EDCC 354 Social Studies Education in Elementary Schools and the other three will be completed during the student-teaching phase of the program.
The four tasks are as follows:
- The Subject Specific Pedagogy Task (case-studies)
- The Designing Instruction Task
- The Assessing Learning Task
- The Culminating Teaching Experience Task
A candidate must score a “3” or “4” on each task or he/she will have to revise and resubmit the tasks with a score of “2” or “1”. A total score of at least 12 is required to pass the TPA.
